Professor of Animal Husbandry. J.L. Lush was appointed Professor of Animal Husbandry at Iowa State in 1930. Dale E. Madden received the Ph. D (1954) in Animal Science from Iowa State College (University). As a student at Iowa State, he attended several classes taught by Professor Jay L. Lush. Lush was a professor of Animal Husbandry at Iowa State (1930-1971). He developed improvement of livestock through his genetic and biometric research and also founded the field of population genetics, which redefined the concept of animal breeds along statistical norms.
